Moruya Recycling Centre takes 20,000th tonne
Leading recycler WSN Environmental Solutions
has received its 20,000th tonne of recyclables, including bottles,
cans and plastic containers, at its Moruya Materials Recycling Facility
(MRF) and has used the occasion to congratulate local residents on their
good recycling habits.
WSN Environmental Solutions CEO Ken
Kanofski said the milestone was a great achievement and one that local
residents could be proud of.
“We would like to thank the overwhelming
majority of residents in the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley Shires for being
responsible and putting their bottles, cans and containers in the right
bin,” Mr Kanofski said.
“These local residents are doing their
bit for their environment by helping WSN turn waste into resource.”
The Moruya MRF started operating in
December 2005 along with a new kerbside recycling service in the Eurobodalla
and Bega Valley Shire local government areas and recycling rates have almost
tripled as a result.
WSN has also been able to on-sell almost
100 per cent of the plastic, metal and paper that is processed at the MRF
to manufacturers, reducing that sector’s reliance on raw materials.
“WSN plans to maintain a long-term
presence in the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley Shires and we look forward
to continuing our productive relationship with the local community,” Mr
Kanofski said.
Mr Kanofski also reminded residents
to be vigilant and continue their responsible approach to recycling all
year round.
“We simply ask residents to keep putting
their bottles, cans and containers in the recycling bin, particularly during
the holiday season when volumes rise,” Mr Kanofski said.
“By putting recyclables in the right
bin and not contaminating them with food or kitchen scraps, residents can
ensure the maximum amount of plastic, metal and paper is recycled and not
sent to landfill.”
