Mixed Waste Disposal
WSN responsibly disposes of mixed waste
- also known as general or wet waste - for council, commercial and community
customers.
Mixed waste we receive from kerbside collections and from deliveries by
householders and businesses is either processed at our AWT facilities,
located at Eastern Creek and Macarthur Resource Recovery Park, or it is
landfilled.
Alternative Waste Technology Processing
AWTs are designed to:
- divert waste from landfill
- maximise resource recovery from waste
- minimise environmental impacts.
As waste levies rise and commitment to environmental sustainability grows, councils are increasingly looking to AWTs as part of an integrated waste management solution. Click here to read about how WSN is helping four south-west Sydney councils to achieve their sustainability targets and to make waste work for their communities.

Highly Engineered Landfill
We operate three highly engineered landfills at Belrose, Eastern Creek, and Lucas Heights, including a bioreactor landfill at Eastern Creek.
The landfill operated at the site formerly known as Jacks Gully was closed 6 July 2008.
Our landfill operations are carefully designed to reduce the amount of space used, maximise the operational lifetime of our landfills and minimise environmental and social impacts.
Biogas produced as the waste breaks down is collected and used to generate green electricity that is returned to the grid. Across our sites we have enough installed capacity to power up to 40,000 homes.
